Jhari Waterfalls is also known as Buttermilk Falls. It is located in the Baba Budangiri range. It is 23 km from Chikmagalur and 11 km from Chikmagalur’s famous tourist place, Baba Budangiri.
It is nestled amidst dense forest and surrounded by lush greenery and coffee plantations.
Jhari Falls is a 2 tier waterfall. Its water drops from a height of 50 to 70 meters. At the bottom, it creates a pool where visitors can swim and enjoy.
If you are an adventure seeker, you can go to the second tier of this waterfall which is 30 meters above. To reach the second tier is risky, for this, you have to climb a small rock. This is a slightly tricky path so not many people will try to go there.
If you are someone who loves waterfalls and adventures, then Jhari Waterfalls can be a perfect place for you. This is one of the famous waterfalls and is the nearest falls from Chikmagalur Town. Your Chikmagalur trip will not be complete without exploring this waterfall; it should be on your bucket list.

The best time to visit Jhari waterfalls is the monsoon season, from July to September. During this time, you will get to see good water flow in the waterfall, with lush greenery and a foggy view all around. The post-monsoon season would also be a good option to visit. During this time, the water from the waterfall flows less than during the monsoon. But your visit is still enjoyable and worth it.

There is no entry fee for Jhari Waterfalls. But if you want to reach the waterfalls enjoying an off-road adventure in a 4×4 jeep, you will have to take a 4×4 jeep which costs Rs 600 for six persons.

How to reach Jhari Waterfalls
Chikmagalur is the nearest town to Jhari Waterfalls. There are many options available to reach Jhari Falls from Chikmagalur. Local buses, private cabs, or even sharing taxis go to Jhari Falls.
But whatever vehicle you take will not go to direct Jhari Waterfalls; it will take you on the way to the waterfalls. from there, Jhari Waterfalls will be 2 to 3 km.
Now, you will have two options: to reach the waterfalls trek or take a 4×4 jeep. Both these options will be fun.
By Jeep: Going by jeep will be a good option, you will save time and also enjoy the off-road adventure.
The jeep will drop you at a distance of 150 meters from Jhari Waterfalls, then from there, you will have to trek for 5 minutes which will be easy. Keep your Jeep ticket with you as it will be mandatory for return.
For return, you just have to show the ticket and the available jeep will take you back.
By Trek: If you want to go to waterfalls by trekking, it will take about 30 minutes. It depends on you how well you can trek. This route passes through dense forest.

- No shop is available near Jhari waterfalls, so carry some eatables like snacks and water bottles.
- Carry water in a steel bottle because plastic is not allowed in this area.
- After booking the jeep, you will be given a ticket, you must keep it with you, do not forget it because while returning from the waterfalls, the jeep in which you came will not be the same, you will have to come in whichever jeep is available, for this, it is necessary to show the ticket. Without the ticket, they will not allow you to assume that you have returned after trekking.
- If you want to explore Jheri waterfalls and also want some peace, then avoid going on weekends. Instead, you can prefer weekdays, during this time you will see fewer people than on weekends.
- Do not throw the bottles, plastic, and garbage. If you have any garbage with you, bring it with you and put it in the dustbin itself. Try to clean nature.
