It is one of the must-visit places in Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada. It is situated in Mudigere Taluk of Chikmagalur and Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada. The Ghat Road connects these two districts. It is 37 km away from Mudigere and 25 km from Belthangdi.

The Ghat is known for its stunning beauty, lush forest, streams, and stunning waterfalls. Visiting this Ghat and driving here will give you a different experience. Curvy and misty roads, mountains, and valleys, as well as many waterfalls along the way, add to the beauty of the Ghat.

The roads along this Ghat section are narrow and deep as compared to the other Ghats of Karnataka. Apart from beautiful views, you can also spot wildlife, mostly elephants, which can be seen here.

How to reach Charmadi Ghat

There are three options to reach the Charmadi Ghat.

By road

Kottigehara and Ujire are the nearest towns to Charmadi Ghat, which is 20 km away from Kottigehara and 18 km away from Belthangady.

If you are coming from Bangalore, drive towards Chikmagalur via NH75 and then take the route to Charmadi Ghat via Mudigere and Kottigehara. This Ghat will be around 340 km from Bangalore and 66 km from Chikmagalur.

From Mangalore, drive towards Mudigere via Ujire. It is situated on this route, which you will come across before Mudigere, which is 84 km from Mangalore and 37 km before Mudigere.

By train

Mangaluru Junction is the nearest railway station to Charmadi Ghat, which is 77 km away. To reach Ghat, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Mudigere.

By air

Mangaluru (International Airport) is the nearest airport, which is 90 km away. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Mudigere to reach Charmadi Ghat viewpoint.

The second nearest airport is Shimoga (domestic airport), which is 162 km away. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Ujire to reach the Ghat.

Tips for visitors

The roads are narrow and deep, so drive carefully.

If you get down to see a sight, don’t play on the roads, enjoy the views from the corner of the roads.

If you are going by bus, then keep in mind that the bus will not stop at any View Point of the Ghat. You can see the view of the Ghat from the bus itself.

Do not litter nature with garbage. If you have garbage, do not throw it on the roads. Throw it in the dustbin only.

Going to this place is an adventure experience. One can reach it by trekking about 2 to 3 km, which includes going through dense forest and crossing 2 or 3 streams. This makes this place fun to visit.

Kelagur tea estate

Kelagur tea estate is a hidden gem spread over 1200 acres, which is 37 km away from Charmadi. Not many people know that such a good estate can exist in Chikmagalur. It gives the Munnar vibes in Chikmagalur. It is known for its rolling hills, lush green landscape, and quality tea production.
